CVS Health offers a new solution to help physicians provide more coordinated care and ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care, called electronic prescribing (e-prescribing), which is now more widely available than ever before. This digital connection affords more flexibility and greater opportunity to streamline the prescribing process.  

CVS Health offers electronic prior authorization (ePA) process. While the traditional PA process, using phone calls and faxes, can take anywhere from two to eight days, the ePA process is up to five times faster, with decisions returned to physicians in as little as six seconds. Providers can take action to help patients save money right at the point of prescribing.  

Integration with electronic health record (EHR) systems to streamline the benefits verification and PA process. Pharmacists seamlessly gather information that is necessary to process a prescription and complete the appropriate PAs. Using this information, they can immediately perform safety checks, confirm clinical information, and initiate real-time prescription benefits. 

CVS Health trains the pharmacy team in their roles individually within the entire workflow. In addition, the pharmacy manager periodically reviews and adjusts operational processes to adapt to changes in the work environment. CVS Health also invests in automation to free up time so the pharmacists could focus on counseling patients, checking blood pressure, giving vaccinations, and providing other clinical services.

CVS Pharmacy Rx Savings Finder enables the retail pharmacist to quickly review a patient's prescription. Armed with the information available through the new system, more than 30,000 CVS pharmacists can play an important role by helping patients save money on their medications, providing advice on how and when to take them, and ultimately helping them achieve better health outcomes.
